I recently experienced moving from a Shared Webhosting plan, over to an unmanaged VPS and was wondering if other's had a similar experience of such a large leap in skill?
When looking around Google and forums for reliable VPS Providers, a lot were labelled as 'Managed VPS Solutions' which didn't really offer the flexibility (or affordability) that we wanted for our sites, so we went ahead and read up on Linux Administration and a few months later took the leap over to an unmanaged VPS.
Since migrating last year, we've experienced no downtime and no major issues. From no knowledge of VPS/Server management, to running our own VPS was a big learning curve but worth it in the long run; Do you think unmanaged VPS' are accessible for the average webmaster?
