I'm not sure what it's like in other countries, but here in the UK it's almost like a culture thing to have a takeaway at the weekend, whether it's Chinese food, Indian food, Pizza, Kebabs etc...

Do you have a favourite takeaway and how often do you get one?
I'm thinking of ordering something tonight but can't really decide what as I'm on my own.

We do pizza’s on Sunday. French fries on Thursday. Love those days.

I am from the UK and we do this at least once a week if I can afford it. Our usual choice is usually either pizza or kebab but if we are able to, we do like to go for a Chinese every so often as that is not something we have to often so really is a treat when we have it.

I'm intrigued by this, like McDonald's french fries or something else?
We have Belgian french fries, similar to McDonalds, but better, lol

Had french fries yesterday.

I actually don't have them very often... I usually prefer either eating out or having home-cooked food!

Pretty much the only time I got takeaways was during the height of COVID, when restaurants were closed except for takeaways :p .

Took me a minute to realize what a "take-away" was... basically "eating out"?
If so, that's something that more of the younger generation does. I am 60, and I MUCH prefer a home cooked meal. I have yet to eat anywhere that their grilled rib-eye can hold a candle to mine (nor most of the "fixins"). Same way with most BBQ, seafood or almost any other "normal dining establishment" meal. And the bonus... I enjoy cooking and it's MUCH healthier. Otherwise, why would I want to devote 20+ hours to smoking a brisket or 16 hours to a pork shoulder for pulled pork?
We MAY eat out once every 2 weeks if I or my spouse doesn't feel like cooking (she fills in on the few occasions that I may not want to cook).

No, it's take-out - you go to the place, collect the food and eat at home. (As opposed to eating out at the restaurant.)

The UK (where the OP lives) calls them takeaways because you take the food away from the restaurant.

When I was a kid, takeaways were primarily the province of food less readily available/typical to make - my hometown had several fish 'n' chips places, several Indian curry places (though some of them were also full restaurants), and some hybrid fish 'n' chips but also sold Chinese food. These days there's a lot more choice about what you can get 'to go'.

Ahhhh.... we call it "to go" orders, since you are getting the food to go home to eat.
