When it comes to saving on food, the strategies that have worked for me are meal planning, buying in bulk, and utilizing coupons or discounts.

I think the most effective way to reduce your grocery bill is to grow heirloom vegetables (their seeds can be replanted, unlike hybrids) and raise chicken in your backyard. I also suggest taking up hunting rabbits and deer using a bow and arrow for red meat, and considering the purchase of a goat for milk and cheese. If you can stand the taste of goat cheese, you will never have to pay a single dime to the grocery stores ever again and your bill will basically be zero for the rest of your life.

Granted, growing the plants, the purchase of a bow and arrow and a goat are all upfront costs that must be calculated, but the goal of such a system would be to ensure yourself a lifetime free food supply. As an added bonus, you skip the pesticides and GMOs and antibiotics loaded into grocery store food. You're also protected against inflation.

If you're less inclined to make the switch into growing plants and raising/hunting animals, the next best thing is the back of the grocery store. Sometimes they have bakery items on a cart next to the milk which can cost as little as $1.50 for a loaf of good bread. In some locales, you can even dumpster dive inside your grocery store dumpster behind the store and get perfectly edible food out of the deal.

I know that both of these methods both seem a little drastic, but they are more effective than clipping coupons.

Cooking at home is always a better way to ensure that you are spending less on food. The cost of making a meal can always be cheaper than when you decide to eat out. I mean, I don't see any economic sense on anyone deciding to be eating out always.

All these are very helpful tips that always comes in very handy when it comes to being able to save money on your food. I have been using almost all of them and they work out so well. Being able to avoid impulse purchases will save you from a lot of wrong spending.
