Steep Renewal Fees

Has anyone here ever experienced really steep domain renewal fees with their current provider? I helped my partner with a website for her law firm a year or so ago and it was a .legal domain. When it came to renewal this year the fee was over 500% higher than the year before which I found extortionate; Certainly the steepest rise I have ever seen myself.

Whilst cheaper fees in the first year is common, have you ever experienced a huge price hike in your second year?

Next time you want to register for legal or any other latest extension, you should always check their second year fee. I use Dynadot and they have reasonable fee for both transfer and renewal of the domain name. Another one used is Name Cheap, they have cheap transfer fee too, and their dashboard has good interface and users friendly.

Its good to check the renewal fees for domain name and hosting, especially if it's cheap or free the first year.

Some domain extensions too are expensive, like the one you used and a cheaper alternative would have been better.

That is how they hook you. Most do that, I use godaddy and it used to be if you have a code you could use it to renew at that same price, they got rid of that long ago, check with the domain registar if they have any coupon codes to use.

I am wondering which domain name provider you are talking about. Based on my experience (about 8 years ago) the annual fee for the use of a domain name doesn't change and the providers have almost the same prices and maybe differ slightly only. If that provider is making the renewal fee exorbitant then I guess it would be best to transfer to another domain name provider. However, the availability of the same domain name may be a problem.

A lot of domains are offered for a discounted price for the first year and the second year charge will be really high. Many people do not realize this. They buy any domains they get on without considering renewal fee.

The thing is that most domains her first giving on huge discounts in fact most of these domain registrars offers discount coupons whereby people can buy domains at a huge discount and so when you want to renew your domain you find out that the amount for renewal it's very big.

I noticed that many people are complaining about high increase in domain and hosting services usually in the second year, I think to solve this problem one needs to prepare for spending in the second year.
