Staff Ratio

What is a good Staff to Active member ratio to abide by? I personally think 1 staff member can look after around 50 members- thoughts?

Yeah 50 Members is good. But for bigger forums, I guess the staffs will have to handle a lot more than that.

Personally, I wouldn't consider a staff. - member ratio. I would rather be considering staff on activity basis.
Like 1 staff for 40-50 posts a day. What's the point if we have 50 registered members and 10-15 real posters? We wouldn't need a staff for every 10 active members right?

Depends, looking on some huge sites I visit from time to time there are five admins and six moderators for a forum which has 850K posts and 541K members. :3

Definitely over a thousand a day, I don't visit there that much other than to get the downloads from the site. It is very active though.

Wow, that's makes it 1 staff:100 posts. That's like above average work.

I tend to keep it where the ratio is if there is several active members a staffer needs to be on the job. I like to keep a close eye on things which usually leads to over-hiring, so cutting back is a bit difficult. I actually like to keep very few staff members in generally but if they are needed they get promoted.
