Songs Meant as Parody - People Didn't Get It and Many Hate the Songs

The songs "We Built this City" (Jefferson Starship) and "Shiny Happy People" (REM) are two examples.

They didn't get the idea the songs were done bad on purpose and somehow the songs became popular anyway to many people. For instance, the cheesy songs above hit the charts.

Shiny Happy People was made because critics kept saying that R.E.M.'s music was too depressing. xD The lead singer got the idea from a Chinese propaganda poster iirc. I like the song though.

I get the joke, but only after told is was a joke. But the song always sounded dumb. I love the guitar riff, but the lyrics are incredibly annoying.
