Social Media impact on SEO?

I've heard a lot of different opinions on Social media's impact on SEO as google never seems to announce it's formula.. What are you thoughts and do you think having a strong social media presence is key to ranking well in Google and other search engines?

It'll no doubt help. I do not think it's "magical" or anything like that. The key to SEO is patience. If you keep using keywords, you'll do well eventually.
