Should I buy up the .net, .org, ect if it is open?

I have the .com for my site and the other ones are still available. Is it a good idea to buy the other ones up as well? They are pretty cheap right now.

It's always nice to get the others and have a redirect to the main .com. However, I've never cared too much to do it myself but better safe than sorry.

I don't think you need to do it immediately. For example: ForumPromotion.com was still available a few weeks ago, and ForumPromotion.net is a million post promotion forum. A few people have tried to duplicate FP, but it never works.

If they are cheap, why not? Like Mop said just redirect them to your main .com and you have all possibilities covered then

I don't think it's necessary and it's definitely not a guarantee that a forum/website/blog would get more traffic if one were to do this.

I don't think it's necessary to do this. Visitors will probably only use your main .com domain. I don't see the point in purchasing multiple domain names unless they are going to be used for a website.

If you have a ton of money to invest in your website, I can understand buying up all of the primary TLDs to prevent anyone else from using your website's name. I don't believe this is necessary though. Nowadays there are a million different domain extensions available, and you can't buy them all... Unless you're Google.
