If you have decided to launch a website, you also need to learn about SEO. Without SEO you cannot build traffic and when there is no traffic, you cannot generate revenue.
SEO for a new website should begin with a short and catchy domain name that also has keywords. Once your site is live, you also need to set up Google Search Console. You can try creating accounts on multiple SEO websites such as semrush, Moz, etc.
responsive websites are appreciated by search engines, therefore, you also need to make your website responsive. You will have to study your competitors and try to use the same keywords in order to outsmart them. Your website needs content that are optimized for search engine ranking.

Actually, SEO is just one of many ways to get significant traffic and it used to be free, but now the competition demands paid methods (paid link-building, SEO company etc.). Anyway, it might be possible to do SEO for free, but my guess it's way for difficult than when I was successfully winning at it around 2011.

True indeed. It is absolutely possible to do SEO for free if you have knowledge and skills, but you might not be ranked high because you will be always be outsmarted by a company that spends a lot of money on SEO and work with big SEO companies like Semrush.

It's really tough to say or not. I mean, an underdog could come out on top these days I think. Well, it's a guess, but I think to a large degree Google and Bing SEO could work for someone trying extra hard. In fact, back in the day, I lost out in the rankings for my employment sites, but then again, my blogs didn't have enough content on them (Employment articles are not something I find especially fun, so it's sometimes to hard to motivate me.).

I am not a fan of doing the SEO work, never really have been, but it's part of the job and you have to make sure your SEO work is good enough to where your sites are ranking. You want to rank within all search engines, that's the best way of getting your sites out there.
