I was thinking about reviving some old sites from the 90s, in an attempt to revive the old style of the web, or as many sites as I can. I just love the way the internet looked back then. So much nostalgia. Anyway, I want to check out some of the popular sites back in the day, and somehow revive them by buying the domains for them and putting them back up.

Has anyone here ever done something like this?

I think this would be considered domain and site flipping, and it is quite profitable. Restoring sites is a great way to do things, and one of my site is currently being sold for 2k because I didn't manage to renew it on time lol.
Well you have expired domains site where you can find old domains and use web archive to find how they looked like.

Do you mean to say you want to bring back those old sites that were popular back in those days. I don't remember any sites before 2005 (that's when I actually started using internet for myself). I remember one site from 2015. I dont know when it was established but I remember in that year, it was a very popular site. The owner even appeared on Bloomberg TV. It was called Bubblews. Do you know this site.

If domain name is still available than you can buy it and starts it but if not than defiantly it will cost you lots of money as someone who owns it have some plan for future. You can replicate site idea with new domain.

There were many sites since the computer Internet. Like GeoCities (first known social network), Ask Jeeves (which lost to google search engine) , Netscape (lost to Chorme and Firefox) etc. Which you think is better to bring back? But the name to use have to be purchased too.

You should also have in mind that you will have to modify the graphic designs, put up clearer pictures because as you have noticed picture quality has improved overtime.
Another thing is that you will have to update a lot information on those sites.
I quiet understand your nostalgia.
It's a beautiful venture.

The first paid to post site I joined was called gather. It was in 2005. It was really cool site that awarded pointa for activities and these points could be exchanged for cash.I also remember a site calles helium. I joines this site in 2006, it was a writing site that shared revenue with the writers.

Reviving those Domain name isn't the problem here. I think the major issue now is the world has gone Digital and I believe no one will be interested in all those kind of old style on the internet if you are assuming not to make it technological like what competitors are bringing up to us now.

I did not start using internet until it was the the new the new century. I do not remember old sites. Most of the sites that I used as a kid are still functioning and I am still using. .

I plan to mostly buy of several expired domains on expired domains.com and refurbish it to later resell them in the future and this is called domain flipping business.

I have sold a couple of websites along with domains but some of my clients never renewed the domains and these domains just expired. I am thinking to revive some of these domains.

Yes that's good ,in everything we do we have to revive our selves, so also as that of sites ,for Mei think you can bring a old site to life , it just needs you and your personal efforts that's all

There's one friend of mine that list track of his domain but when he was able to recover it after some months, he flipped it and made huge profit.

Well that would be a nice touch, of you ever get around to it. I think it might cost you a bit of money and time, but I guess you might enjoy doing it. I personally think those domains should be flipped.
