We all know how important it is to have a great team of staff members to help us manage our websites and online communities. Without their hard work and dedication, we wouldn't be able to achieve the success we've had. (Special thanks to @Cory - @Shortie - @Strawberry - @Kale - @Nomad - @Ravenfreak)

With that in mind, I wanted to start a discussion on recognizing exceptional staff members. How do you go about showing your appreciation for your team members who go above and beyond the call of duty?

Personally, I have plans to publicly recognize exceptional staff members by creating a "Staff Spotlight" post on our website or forum. In this post, I'll highlight the staff member's achievements, their contributions to the community, and any other relevant information that showcases their hard work. More about that soon! ;)

I also like to offer incentives for exceptional performance, such as bonuses, gift cards, or other rewards. This not only shows our appreciation, but it also motivates our team members to continue performing at a high level.

Of course, recognizing exceptional staff members doesn't always have to be about rewards or incentives. Sometimes a simple "thank you" or a kind word of appreciation can go a long way in boosting morale and showing that you value your team's hard work.

So, how do you recognize exceptional staff members on your website or forum? Do you have any unique or creative ways of showing your appreciation? Let's start a discussion and share our ideas!

I have actually been given online Amazon gift cards before when I was writing for one pro wrestling site to buy whatever I wanted. I do not recall ever getting any sort of gift cards, money, or anything working on a forum as a staff member outside of VIP/premium status if I had left on good terms. I agree with a staff spotlight in a newsletter or whatever sort of weekly to monthly thing your site does.

It's been a while since I've had other staff members on my board, so I don't really remember if I did properly recognize them or not for being exceptionally hard workers. But, if I did want to recognize staff members I probably wouldn't do it with some kind of currency, but just a general shoutout to them for their hard work, whether it is through an open or private discussion topic. Of course, some type of currency is probably an even greater incentive, but I also don't want them to think it will be a continuous thing to receive for their outstanding work. But definitely, some type of incentive would be nice for them.

I don't necessarily think you need to do a lot to show your appreciation for your staff members. Usually these kind of positions are voluntary and I personally don't expect anything for signing up to be a team member. Just by continuously communicating and showing your thanks and gratitude is normally enough for people.

By all means, if you have a budget to give your staff members certain rewards, then why not look into it? But just be mindful of how doing something like this may be received, as while you may think you're doing a nice thing, some people may refuse to take any gifts.
