Print on demand is essentially a way to run an online store without having to actually have stock on hand. You can simply make.graphics that you list in clothes and other items. When a person purchases said product, another team takes on the production, shipping and so on.

Would you ever start your own store to sell print on demand products?

I have print on demand stores on my website as well as third-party ecommerce platforms. Even though I a,m not generating a lot of sales and I manage to sell just a few products per month, I believe print-on-demand is the best way to run an online business. You can start it for a low cost and even when you fail, you will not make a huge loss.
