Perks on a forum?

Advertisement Placeholder
I think it's a good idea to have a lot of perks for the new members like badges or getting added to some 100 Post Club, 500 Post Club, 1000 Post Club etc. with special benefits like username color change (not necessarily all of those clubs having a separate forum), getting virtual currency for hitting the said number of Post counts or some giveaway contest only for them. These might help in raising enthusiasm and interest in the member to continue staying active.

I’ve always eschewed these type of things as ‘gimmicks’ which a forum doesn’t need but I suppose it depends upon the niche. For a straight up discussion forum like mine, fake currency and shiny badges don’t have much use. On other forums they’re probably essential for member retention.
