People who are in tenured positions usually are safe from layoffs and firings. Of course if they break the rules, they can still be fired. But being tenured means that you're staying in that job until you're outright fired or quit. This also means that no one else can take your position over and if you want to, you can take higher positions from someone else.

Have you ever been in a tenured position at your job? Have you ever lost a job because of a tenured employee taking it over?

In our country, people working in private organizations are always under the risk of getting fired. They can be fired for silly reason. Even when they are in a tenured contract, they can be fired at any moment. However, those in government jobs, cannot be easily fired.
