I know this is something a lot of sites do that focus on news. They are essentially blogs but they only do articles about current news. Many of them will charge a fee to gain access to higher quality work on the site that a lot of people may be interested in reading. Do you think this could word for other niches and topics?

Paid subscription for blog is a process whereby the blogger paid for the network in order to have contents on his website. This is why such blogger needs to set amount to be paid for reader to get the high quality contents produced thereof.

I have never charged fees for my content, except ebooks and digital arts. My content on my sites is free to use. Well, I know a lot of sites that offer paid subscription, and these are mostly big sites.

It's good to attach charged fees to your contents but it should be considerate and affordable. This makes your contents valuable and you will also want to provide good and genuine contents for users.

If you have good ammount of popularity you can try to charge them for your sevices however it should be affordable ane good quality if not then you won't get any paid subscribers

Looks like most of the people here are only speaking theoretically, they are not speaking from their experience. I once was a manager on a site where the owner tried to charge reading fees, and traffic dropped.

I believe that the person needs to be popular to an extent before he or she will begin to think of attaching some fees to his or her contents. The person should be known already

Honestly, i do not think it could work for other niches and topics. This is because most people would not like to pay for any other topics they could get from elsewhere aside from current news

I really hate it, when I go to a blog and they have a popup that blocks the content unless you pay for a membership I normally just leave

These pop-ups are called "paywalls". They are designed to block user from accessing content until or unless they pay for viewing the content. These paywalls are usually found on many websites that contain articles that are published by highly-qualified people. This is why they try to charge people for reading such kind of content.

I have seen it a couple of times on some forums where they get to publish a lot of news which is usually set on the first page once you access the forum. I like the feature so much because of the high quality of news they get to publish every day without missing anything out.
