I see way to much of this honestly. I see to many newer forums having like, 5 mods and maybe only 3 members online within the past 24 hours and it's just silly. :p

How much staff is too much staff, and do you join forums that seem overstaffed?

I've seen forums that have hundreds of posts with all but one member as staff. It's not a nice thing to see and I think it just puts people off to be honest. Why a forum would need more than 1-2 mods ever I will never know unless it gets like 500 posts a day

It's rather peculiar to me as to why people feel the need to have more staff members than they do members. If they have that big of an issue saying no to someone, I really do not want to be a member of such forum. You should have 1-2 mods, besides you and probably another admin for up to 100 posts a day, anything more I think depends on the amount of activity and motivation your moderation team has. Just because you have moderators does not mean you as an admin can simply leave it all to them, you're a mod as well, you should be helping them out with reports and taking care of situations. I know many forums that leave it all to the moderation team and the admins sit back and relax and it's really a pitty, admins and the moderation team should be doing everything they can to settle disputes and keep the activity. It's a team effort.

You can never have too many moderators if they're all active. :p You should only have as many moderators as can stay active. Anything else is just pushing it.
