Overall thoughts on merging forums?

I guess merging two active forums into one other is an idea that could go well but I've never seen a need when it comes to merging in old databases because how many of the people will actually find the forum again? Then you'll just be sitting with a bunch of old and in-active members.

What are your thoughts on this?

I had this thought once, but did took some time to think over its result. And i thought merging may end up in vain if users are not satisfied or if their is some miscommunication between forum teams.

I never liked the idea of merging to be frank. I find the ups of doing it is not enough for forums related to webmaster and admin, the only good part is the article section. Anyway for promotion forums I guess its not a bad idea.
