Have you ever merged a forum before? If so, why did you do it? If you want to do it, why do you want too, what benefits will you get out of it?

Personally, I've merged a few DB's in my time and I did it just because I wanted to inflate the post count because back then I though "More posts on the counter = more awesomeness" and more people would come as their was more discussions to be had.

I wouldn't do it again though, unless it was crucial in some way. What about you?

Never have done it! :D
If 2 forums are of same niche and one is going to be closed down, I think its better to join them for the sake of the active members! :)

I have never done it but I think there is a case for it... Like AdminsHut was on offer for $80 with 15000 posts and quite a few active members. If you had another admin or webmaster forum that would have been an awesome buy....

never did it but wanted to on multiple ocassions but well not needed :D
I have a db though that I am holding just in case if I need it for something :D

I have a DB on my computer which I would gladly give to WGBB but I just think that the influx of posts/spambot members (Already signed up) and junk that comes with it would be highly annoying and frustrating to sort through and whatnot.

That and it does feel like you're trying to artificially inflate your forums presence. Then again, what Sam said makes sense. If you spot a good deal like that and you can see it slotting right into your community, why not go for it? I guess it all depends on the mindset of the person buying said DB/Forum whatever and of course, the community mindset of the place you would be merging it into.
