Make Your Mark Online With These Design Tips

There is a multitude of things that a website can be used for. It is used for information sharing, entertainment and other uses. No matter what you use the site for, you need to be a great webmaster so you make things well. What follows is a handful of tips that will help you get started.

When designing webpages it is important that you use the correct graphics. Do not use bitmap for your images as they take up too much space. A PNG image should be used when it has less than 256 colors, so try to stay with that when designing text buttons, screenshots and images that are photographic quality. For photos, you can use JPEG images.

Include some way to help visitors search for content. A simple tool such as a search box lets the visitor easily a specific piece of information on your site. If you don't get one of these, they may move to a site that has something like that. Always put the box somewhere near the right page's top because people will look for it there.

Always double check pages for broken links before publishing a page. When a visitor clicks on one, they'll be frustrated. You can check your links manually, or there are programs that will scan your site for you and report any broken links.

Always separate topics. Keep different topics on different pages. This will help your customer quickly find the information he or she requires.

Post pictures on your site. Having personal pictures on your site makes your site appear more user friendly. People always like to look at interesting pictures that they have never seen before, and many times will spend hours on your site looking at them.

When designing your website, you should avoid using too many different types of fonts. Learn how to use generic fonts to make your site look more uniform. Many sites prefer Verdana, which is readable in many sizes and colors.

When deciding on what background color to use for your site, white is a good and effective choice. White backgrounds not only make the text easy to read, but also make your site appear more professional, as white is the standard background color for corporate sites. Colors, patterns or other designs are distracting and don't have a place on a website. When choosing a background for your website, a simple background is better.

Put together a nice page about you or your organization and title it "About" or "About Us." Dry or simplistic content won't get your reader interested. Make it a little more exciting! Provide some insight about your own story. How did you get inspiration? What are your goals? What led you to web design?

Learning about web design is a subject that becomes easier the more you work at it. The best way to learn is by starting up your own page and begin with simple scripts in HTML or PHP and upgrading as you become comfortable. The sooner you start practicing, the sooner you'll be an expert.

As you can now see, websites have many purposes. However, the specific focus of a website does not matter to who designs it. Apply the tips here, and you can design a website for any purpose you want.

Thanks for the tips. Most the website owners put all their focus on writing quality and quantity, neglecting technical stuff like design and theme. User will be bounce back from your website if it's not attractive. Let take for instance, you enter a shop and you it's not well arranged, will you stay long there.

using too many images can also ruin your design. When you are using too many images, your main content will be on the back seat. Too many images will also make your site load slow. Too many ads units on your page is anso not good. I think video ads are also detrimental for your design
