A lot of bloggers enable commenting only for those who can log into the site through facebook twitter, wordpress, etc. Have you enabled this option? Do you think you can control spam by using this method? Do you believe you can still receive comments by enabling this option? IN my experience, a lot of people avoid commenting if they have to log in. That's because they do not want to give their details on a random site. I do not require my visitors to be logged in to leave comments. Have you enabled logged-in blog commenting?

Or guest people, something that allows them to post without making an account then they have a choice to make an account after. WHen it comes down to logging in via FB or whatnot to comment, bloggers needs to able to have it so that it's super easy and fast. I do not want to take 10mins to make an account just for 2 lines of comment, I would leave LOL

Unfortunately, I don't think Bob's UBS blogs addon allows guest commenting, even with all anti-spam options configured and enabled.

Too many chances of having spam comments appearing so I have commenting locked behind creating an account. Seen it happen a lot, especially with new Wordpress sites where the spam comments come through in the held for review section. If someone wants to leave a comment then they can become part of the community and interact.

User Blogs System (UBS) has had Guest posting for comments and reviews since XF 1.3.

User Blogs System (UBS) also implements PreRegAction handlers (for the Write before registration) for both Comments and Reviews. Keep in mind, If you enable Write before registration, that trumps guest posting.

FWIW, all of my addons support guest posting for comments, questions and reviews as well as PreRegAction handlers for comments, questions and reviews.

If needed I can post on your site, but I don't have "writing before register" enabled, and I checked the blog's own settings. Not giving me an option to post my own blog in incognito.
NVM, the perms system can be ... fun sometimes.

On forums, spam is kept out (by my chosen method) with questions asked at user registration. Now, with blogs, maybe something similar would work, but you shouldn't have to force people to login, though it's a better way to handle commentators.

Note: on my forums I don't allow guests to post, but not because of a spam threat.

I gave up on guest posting as it just turned into non-stop spam. I have enough issues fighting registered spammers, but overall I would one day like to figure out an option for guests in some areas. Personally, I'd love the ability to limit guest posting to the first x hours of the publish date. Let them post and draw conversation, but then get locked out to prevent spam on older items.

I know with XF there was a mod where you could post anonymously but you also had to be registered as a member... I remember looking at it for a site I was doing but never ended up using it. Not sure if its still around though.
