Invested in foreign currency that died out?

Did you ever invest in a foreign currency that later died out? I know that some countries either change their currency, are taken over and in turn the currency changes, and other things. Anyway, did you ever invest, make a lot and then end up losing out because the currency died?

Luckily for me, I have not made this kind of investment, I only trade on popular currency pairs and not some pairs that are not known or popular to avoid any form of risk like this.
