Segmenting is very important.

When it comes to a mailing list, the subscriber count is probably the least important metric of all.

My email list has around 3K subscribers. In all honesty, only about a third of those have made me benefit from having the list. These are the ones who are donating, buying merch, buying sponsorship, and hiring me for services.

My email list costs money since I have a good number of subscribers.

Segmenting from the get-go is important. This is how you retain customers, know who your buyers are, send the right content to the right subscribers based on their online and buying behaviors.
