How to deal with AdBlock users?

I don't have the actual numbers of AdBlock users but I know they're pretty high - heck, even I'm using it as I type this and only disable the thing when I want to check the ad placement/advertisers of certain sites to improve my own. I've noticed webmasters that place messages encouraging users to disable the extension (wink), others that fully block access to content or some that serve redirects. Or you could get lucky with new CPA offers that are not blocked.

So, what about you guys and girls, what's your experience with Adblock and how do you monetize the users?

I've seen similar questions elsewhere and those who respond simply say, the percentage of web-users who use adblock is quite low. Fact though is more and more people are starting to use adblock and other similar extensions that block ads. Something that negatively affects sites that rely on ads to generate revenue.

If you know your blog visitors are using adblock then maybe this could be helpful:

A number of sites these days have a link on each page asking users if they want the ads to be hidden. If they don't want to see any ads they pay a small annual or monthly fee. If lots of users opt for that [depending on the traffic you get] you could make more revenue than you'd have got from traditional ads.

I've heard that there are plugins which block adblock users from accessing the site. You can use it but risk offending some of your users. But if you are gaining nothing from them, do you even need them?

Find alternative ways to monetize your site if you must.
