I was just wondering how you guys all run your forum.

Like, what do you guys do to prevent spam, keep the forum populated, and everything that involves owning it.

I think this will be a very interesting topic.

I have a general discussion forum so it feels like it requires a bit less effort compared to other forum niches. I essentially wanted to create a nice, relaxing community where users can be themselves so we tend to not have many rules. That helps a lot with moderation as well where we don't actively have to worry about users doing things they aren't supposed to.

In terms of spam, I just have a simple Q&A system that tends to stop most bots (touch wood)

Normally my first priority is make it popular and I normally use Facebook groups where I can fetch some good members which give us quality content. Always work around spam prevention so setup some rules to avoid them. Also promote members so it gives motivation to them and often reward them.

I make to this thread looking for answers. I want to learn how to manage a website. I want t know how people drive traffic to their site, how they stop spam and how they generate revenue. I hope to build my website someday.

I don't have a forum, i own a website, but ever since my domain expired i dump it cos i don't make income through it much. If i have future forum site, I'll allow users to create topics just the way you do with your own forum. But posting trash or spamming the forum won't be allowed, cos the mods will be regulating such to reduce the amount of such kind of posts.

Currently, I do not have a forum but I did try to run a forum in the past. sadly, it did not work for me because I could not manage to build members on my forums.

I do not have a forum yet but my friend has a forum which I help him to manage it at times because it do not have time to manage it and the way I used to run this forum is by dedicating some time to moderating the forum and mostly write contents for the forum.

I will make sure I prevent plagiarism and spamming. The best way of preventing spamming is to imploy the service of the users to be repeating the defaulters any time there is a case of this.

For the forums I own, I always have spam filters. I also have filters blocking out offensive words and some offensive content. As for getting traffic to my site. I've done a lot of giveaways in the past. Not ideal, but it gives you a boost in traffic, and you might get some sign-ups. I also have one other moderator on my main forum, as I don't have the time to keep an eye on it for the most part.

In our office website we have 2 mods aside from the admin which was me. The most common issue are the spammers who posts ads. We move the spam posts in a hidden board. We do not delete because that is also content. After hiding the post we block the user and the IP address so that he can register again but with another IP. Eventually he would run out of IP address to use.

If you want your forum to be successful, you will have to build the member base first. You need a lot of members. Your members also need to post quality content.

I hope you can get that forum back and running again since building members is the only thing you said has kept you back from running it effectively

members are the backbone of a forum. If there not many members, and there will not be many content, if there are not many contents, there will be no traffic, no traffic means no earning

Having other staffs members adding to me, will help me run the forum well, and moderate the messages shared on the forum, which will prevent spam.

Currently I don't have forum if my own to run, but it is good to prevent it from spam, you need to build your forum to be a successful one, so that it enable one to earn much money from it.

Sometimes I feel the the forum owners should strive for quality instead of quantity. IN other words, they should have few members who create quality content instead of a lot of members who create low quality content.

Who should know, the more members come in, the better the traffic. And some forum owners just want to have people from different locations.

I have been posting on forums for more than 6 months, based on my experience, I am taking interest in creating forum but I have not decided on what kind of forum should I start
