How do you get traffic on a free hosted website

A lot of people start website by using free hosted websites such as wordpress, bogspot, tumblr, wix, weebly, etc. Did you ever try free websites? Were you able to get traffic on your free website? How did you get traffic, through search engines, social media, or through direct means. When I was running free websites, I did not have any traffic. That's the reason my free websites where short lived.

I think the same methods for a paid site will work. Usually utilizing social media promotions, guest postings, and more. The issue is with the free hosting, as you won't have the security and support of a paid host.

Social media, as my SEO efforts were comical back then. I took my SEO course in Fall 2019, and it took even longer after that to integrate my SEO knowledge with the websites I was making, or even with my YouTube video titles.

I've tried some free hosting like InfinityFree.com, but not WordPress.com etc.. Anyway, I haven't gotten substantial traffic to my free stuff. Well, I didn't really try. My situation wasn't a very serious one for me.
