How do you explain hosting to people not into web development?

It might be a strange concept to them. I suppose you could mention it's like someone renting a house to live in. Anyway, I think web developers, like others, live in a bubble. That's natural, I think.

I think a lot of people already have basic idea about hosting. More than 4 billion people use internet and more than 3 billion people use Facebook. Since people are already using internet, and even if they do not know what a domain is and what a hosting it is would not be difficult to explain it to them. WE can give example of Facebook, youtube, or google to explain what domain is and why a domain needs top be hosted.
