If you are a forum owner, how do you determine your success? Here are my criteria:
Users: You need a large user base/
Activity: Having a huge users is not enough, you also need a lot of regular activity.
Traffic: Your community needs to generate a lot of traffic
Revenue: This is very important criteria for me to measure success, however, a lot of people do not care about revenue generation.

Number of users and regular activities are certainly the criteria that determines success. If you have a lot of users and activities, I believe traffic will follow, and if you have monetized your site, you sure will make money

Activities and number of users are two metrics that will determine the success of your community. One of the biggest forums I have ever seen is bitcoin talk dot org. It gets thousands of posts every day
