How can the tech industry reduce its environmental impact?

With the increasing focus on sustainability, how can the tech industry reduce its environmental impact, and what role can consumers play in supporting eco-friendly technology choices?

The tech industry can reduce its environmental impact by adopting more sustainable practices such as using renewable energy sources and designing products that last longer and can be repaired or recycled.
Consumers can also support the environment by buying from eco-friendly companies and disposing of them properly when they are no longer needed.

The problem with tech is that no matter what we do, it's always going to have some sort of environmental impact on the world. Renewable energy is a solid plus, good one @Lingaraj and renewed and recycled tech is a likely possibility as well.

The tech industry can also stop making new versions of the same tech every year. We don't need the same phone upgraded with minimal changes. Give us good software and good tech that lasts us years, that would be a lot better for the environment, if we established a base model device that doesn't need to result in a new device every single year.
