Hiring a developer, what to know?

Has anyone here hired a developer to work for you? Maybe it was to create a program, app, or do some other tech related work. I have hired developers to help with site designs, but that's really been about it for me. What are some warnings you should know when going to hire a developer?

I have never worked with a developer. I build my own websites by using CMS. If I have to work with a developer, I will look into a couple of things, one, knowledge and skills, two, experience, three portfolio, and four fees.

I haven't hired a web developer to work on or design any site for me. I make use of Content Management System like wordpress to create sites. I have some basic knowledge pertaining to web development in some backend languages and this makes things more easier for me while using the CMS.

There are many things you should know before you hire a developer. I think that experience is quite important and this is why it might be quite relevant. The level of skills and expertise are also some of the most important things you should consider.
