Hiding your online status?

On most forums I have joined these days, there are options to hide your online status to others. This usually hides it to everyone, except the staff members on the site. Do you do this? If so, why? I am aware some people may do this to prevent getting pestered or bugged, when someone sees they are online.

Some people use it I found to hide themselves so they do not get bugged by members on a forum. That is understandable if you have a member who tends to bug you a lot any time you are online.

Some find that staff hiding their online status is unprofessional I have heard from some people.
