I never told anyone that he was a bad cook. I definitely wouldn't say that to my mom, because she cooks everything perfectly, except for a few things, and if I say that it's not tasty, I think she'll be offended that I said it frankly, so I can just be patient because I'm not often at home and eat my mother's food. And if I eat at someone's place, I don't even need to say it, because it's not a fact that I'll be at their place again, so you can be patient once.

Though I haven't said directly that someone is a bad cook, but have advise the person as to which component was little beyond limit or too less. But I have seen someone way worse than, I mean he will just spit out at your face but in a joking and non offensive way.
