I remember one time while researching hosting for one of my projects, I came across a post to host site. Basically with post to host, you make posts on the hosts forum, and you must meet a certain quota to continue receiving your hosting plan. I haven't seen many hosts like this recently, I can imagine it has to be expensive to host a number of sites with no revenue to actually help keep the sites online.

I remember those very well. I was always a fan of this method. Been thinking to offer the free forum hosting along these lines, but then again, I don’t want to push anyone, so I just offer it for free. I do think it’s not that profitable for a post to host strategy and often was out of good will from the webhost themselves.
