General Have you ever set up a special group for trolls?

Was talking with the admin over on a site I help with. We had one Australian join up just to troll, because it is what they do.

So, I was given permission to set up a special group (as I'm learning more about the admin related in SMF) for trolls.

This is a precursor to what I have come up with.

I have done similar on my XF sites for banned users, but just modified the banner, but never hard assigned a avatar to accounts.
Have you ever gone that far and created special accounts for those "special" users?

I never actually done this myself on any forum. Then again, I didn't really have too many trolls join my forums either. Would this member be banned from certain parts of the forum, or are they still allowed to post? I did have some admins on a Teen Titans forum troll me once, but I was being a brat and deserved what they did to me lol. (All they did was change my avatar.)

Forums that are designed to make people angry? They sure won't go well with Gen Z I think! ;)
If you knew the person that was specifically targeted for (but can be used for others) you would see how appropriate it is.
They came onto that site and signed up to just enter one troll post (which got them a warning and the post moderated/edited). As you can see they are "watched" which indicates they have risen up in the SMF warning pool.

The user group they are a member of can still post. They just can't change their avatar and the user group is a fixed one that they cannot leave.
It is honestly only set up for those that are well known trolls. This one is a well known Australian one that likes Aussie football that got the routine implemented on them.
We award users for being great participants on our sites... so why not "reward" those that are ready trolls also? :devilish:

Is this a Xenforo user by chance?
That's the name the account used. Whether it is the same person or not... who knows. But most likely it is a valid account for them.

No. But it sounds like a fun experiment.

Create a Purgatory category on your forum that only trolls can see and post in. Then let them troll away :p
That would be easy and fun in XF. Set up so that they can't see the normal stuff but only have categories and nodes just for them.
I don't think that all software can do that as easily as XF can though, but I may look at into it.

Trolls would get bullied, you know, since they bully first.
I am against bullying so that would not be something I would allow in the troll zone if I had one. I believe that if a troll bullies and it is bad enough that warrants a permanent ban. The trolls who are just messing without any kind of bullying would be the ones I would move to the troll area.

It could be the dark web of your forum LOL

I forgot to say, you don't want to mention their name... it's like saying Beetlejuice three times.

The kind of drama that's going to be transpiring in that space is going to be a farce and fun to watch as it unfolds.

I think such category should be made open for others to see but they can't post in it.
