Every time I switch to a new company, I make sure I'm getting at least 80% more than what they were paying me in the previous company. It's a difficult job to make them agree to your demand since they will always be saying that they are on a budget so they can't pay that much. But if you really prove that you are worth what you are asking for, they will even give you more. One mistake people do is that they reveal their previous salary to the new company. We should not do that. Rather we should ask the company first how much they are willing to pay. And then play our cards. Negotiation is a skill. ;) Many deserving people end up getting less pay because of not having this skill.

I negotiated my salary on my last job, but I was not offered the amount that I asked for. However, as compensation, I was allowed to work on my online jobs during my office hours.

Getting to work on your online jobs during your office hours compensates it I guess. It's still not a bad deal right?

I have not had the opportunity to negotiate my salary as my boss has given me some raise on my salary in the past two years. It was not much, but was an evidence that I was doing a lot to keep things going well as expected. I am thinking that I deserve another raise soon and will push for it, if I was not given by him.

Debashis... I strongly agree with what you have said, you can't expect me to earn less at a new company i am joining.
I will rather not work if you're offering me a less amount than where i was before joining the company

Some companies don't give the opportunity to negotiate your salary or a raise,I am a freelancer though so I have the opportunity to negotiate my wages before I embark on the job
