Have you ever dealt with a debt collector in any way? I have when it came to my college debts. I still get calls from them every so often saying I have this amount to pay off. But have you ever dealt with unruly debt collectors who just wouldn't stop calling? What's your experience with debt collectors?

I've never been in debt in any way. I don't borrow money, I didn't apply for college loan or borrow money for my business. There's no reason for me to have any kind of business with a debt collection officer. I've seen how they can harass those they are trying to make pay their debt.

Well, if you're owing them, they have the right to call you as much as they want until you pay your debt. They don't owe you any respect when you have already defaulted with your repayment and that's why the task was given to a debt collection officer to get the money back.

I have always stayed clear of debt collectors. I don't take up their loans no matter how tempting that it always look like because I wouldn't want to be doing hide and seek when it is time to pay up.

Correct! If you take a loan, aren't you meant to pay it back? If one is having a challenge or difficulty in paying back the loan he took, he should contact the loan office and explain his situation instead of trying to hide. It's why they send debt collectors.

I wouldn't say that I have not owed anyone money in my life. What I know is that it's something that I've always done between me and my close friends. It's always possible for us to sort out the debt personally without having to start looking at each other like we are trying to do something funny.

Yes, a debt collection officer have the right to use any legal strategies available to him in order to collect the debt bring owed. A debtor doesn't have the right to complain about being harassed to pay their debt. They brought it upon themselves.

I have dealt with debt collectors and they were never disrespectful. I still have an outstanding loan and I frequently get phone calls from banks but these guys are not unruly. However, I have heard of many horror stories of unruly debt collectors

Sometimes, I usually think that it is the way the debtor behaves towards the debt collector that usually makes them to be disrespectful and unruly. When someone is owing a debt and it has been long outstanding the person should know exactly how to relate with the debt collector so that they can understand the difficulty they are having which have made them not being able to pay the debt and for them to find a way possible for the person to resolve the debt issue.

I was very close to it because I had already passed 3 months from the moment when I had to make a payment and that is why the operators called me every week and reminded me that I need to pay off the debt, but I really did not have the funds and I tried my best. And the last time they called, they told me that I have 3 days if I don't repay the loan, I will have to deal with other people, and then I decided to borrow from my parents because I wouldn't want to get hit on the head with a bat :)
