What do you think is the hardest part in running a forum?
Is it getting the members or is it getting ideas for new topics?

Or is it something else?

The hardest part could well be thinking of new ideas in general, to make the forum unique aswell as bringing in your first few members. This can be tough, very tough if you have no unique ideas whatsoever. ;)

I've seen alot of forums open who want to be as big as their 'rivals' but there is nothing new about it, usually the same userbase with the same topics being discussed but with a different person in charge.

I completely agree with the quoted comment i think too many people see a successful forum and want to emulate, this is basically impossible it will never happen and i actually think a lot of people fail because of that, you have to be unique you have to add your own personality into the project and create a unique community, do that and you will be successful.
