Good multimedia boxes that are safe?

I am on the lookout for a multimedia device, one that can be used like a cheap PC and a streaming device. I just want something I can hook to my tv and not have to worry about screensharing. I also don't want one that is full of malware and spam, as I hear some multimedia boxes are security risks as they have certain code added that may add key loggets and such. SO yeah, it's something to keep in mind.

Any suggestions from Amazon or Walmart? Or should I just build a cheap raspberry pi PC to use as a multimedia streamer?

I think in this case a Raspberry Pi is the affordable option here since it's barebone, and it is relatively safe. You can get a Windows mini PC if you can pay a little more or a used Mac mini.
