It is not wrong to think that way, but currently the dollar is currently bullish and alot of technical and fundamental factors supports that Dollar would continue it's rally. It is negatively correlated with gold.
 
I've noticed that gold has been dipping a lot recently (for over 3 weeks now) and the lingering question is "does the stable price of base currencies affect the price of gold or other precious metals?
 
as long as institutional data and hedge funds investments are backing USD and the central bank numbers are positive on USD, gold will continue to dip
