One of the most common tactics used by marketers, businesses, and website owners to build an email list is giving away free ebooks to the subscribers. A lot of people sign up for the list if they are offered ebooks. Have you used this tactics, have you found it to be useful? Well, based on my experience, I do not think this is a great method because many people are afraid of spam so they do not use their best email ID to subscribe these offers.

What you're explaining is called a lead magnet.

You create something of high value and give it away for free to someone who is willing to subscribe to your email list.

I do this but not with an eBook. I have an email list with about 3K subscribers. It's related to hiking and local outdoor stuff. After I created a lead magnet, subscription rates skyrocketed.

My lead magnet is a guide to a bunch of lesser-known hiking trails. A simple PDF.

An eBook is good to offer but if all you need is a guide to get it done, that's easier to make.

I honestly think the same practice could help forum owners. Offer a lead magnet to those who join. Have the welcome DM send them a link to download it.

This is not a tactic I have used but I know that it is a tactic that has proved successful for many.

It's quite surprising how many people are interested in e-books, especially if it's something that is niche-related to your website and it's also something that may not cost you much if anything at all if you have the skills yourself to create the e-book you are giving away.

When it comes to building your email list, you are definitely going to make a room for giving out something in order for you to get something in return. With only publishing a high quality content is not going to be enough as far as I'm concerned because people would definitely want more and having an additional eBook offering as a gift for them to subscribe is always going to be enticing.
