A forum I used to be a member of, used to have RPG style stats on each users profile. Every time you posted, it would up your score. And every time someone gave you something like rep, it would build your stats longer. I remember the most popular users having a ton of RPG stats. Why don't more sites do stuff like this anymore?

I started posting on forums in 2015. Even though I have mostly posted on paid to post forums, I have also joined a lot of forums just for pure passion. As a forum user, I am mostly concerned with discussion, I like to post on the topics as well as create topics. I am not into forum games. I see very few people joining purely for the sake of forum discussion. Perhaps the decline in real users for forums is one of the reasons why forum users are no longer using things like these.

I would also like to include that the impact of social media on forums played a very big role in what is happening right now because a lot of people switched from using forums to using a lot of social media platforms that we have today and that really affected what forums used to be.

I think that many of the forums turn towards the ptp system because it is one of the ways to encourage the forums to remain alive and users to stay active, as it says @Heatman many of the forums have been affected by the arrival of social networks, but I sincerely believe that the forums have many more productive conversations to contribute than social networks that most of the discussions are mundane and bland content, I keep with forums even if they don't pay me.

Discussions are always better on forums because you can never get the same thing on social media which is exactly what sets it apart with high standard that is always obtainable on that platform.

I find it very difficult to get into long conversation on social media because it won't even take time for someone to even start being toxic there.

You have found the most exact point of what social networks are, people who are offended by everything and who begin to act and speak in a toxic way, there cannot be healthy debates there when you have different opinions from other users, in the forums It's different, it seems that here people are looking for content that is more intellectual and sometimes challenging for their knowledge, in general social networks do not attract me at all.

The implementation of RPG-style stats on user profiles in forums was popular in the past and provided a gamified element to the community. However, as online communities have evolved, the focus has shifted towards other aspects such as fostering meaningful discussions, knowledge sharing, and networking.

I would actually say that the reason why most website or forums doesn't make use of this anymore is because they probably feel that people don't usually have much interest in it, so they feel it is relevant for them to still be making use of the feature on their forums.
It's not like they really have to do anything. The RPG stats I saw at one of the forums I went to, was just a part of being a user. Each post you made counted towards your stats. You could do it just to build your stats, or like some users, they didn't even bother to pay attention to the RPG stats and just posted normally.

But I think people really like the idea of having stats for their posts. I remember the site had an arcade section, where you could break high scores, and it would show the user with the high score. Always thought that was cool, because you could brag about the games you've mastered. I miss that feature.

I would say that with the shift towards other aspects of fostering meaningful discussion knowledge, sharing knowledge and networking on communities right now have a better advantage in terms of helping the community grow in a way that is going to be more beneficial to everyone on the community.
