If you were to start a Forum/Blog, would you choose the free softwares or paid ones?
What would be the advantages of paid softwares over free softwares?

Paid forum software's would ultimately "obviously" be the better software, because as a fact, it is "paid" for a reason. However I personally prefer Free Forum Software's, as I feel there is no need to purchase a forum software when you have forum software's like MyBB, Zeta Boards & to certain extent phpBB out there. Though, if I could afford a paid software and I was comfortable with the software, I wouldn't mind too much about it.

Free = better value
Paid = better quality

If you have a popular forum going running say, MyBB, and you're making some money with it, getting a paid software like XenForo can be a good option.

If I could afford an paid software, I would definitely go for a paid software because as you say it's "paid" for a reason and has much improved quality with much better features. Free Softwares like MyBB aren't bad but they aren't good enough to contest an paid software like vBulletin, XenForo or IPB!
