True, though if you want your own domain I think you need to pay. But that’s hardly the worst situation in the world to deal with.
Yeah... if you are already hosting a site via another script, adding WP to the mix isn't that major of a deal (other than the domain).
A lot of folks don't really care about the .xxxxx.yyy slug.... as long as they can get IWANTTHIS.xxxxxx.yyy they are happy.

Well, what people have on social media is the same. It doesn't have a domain, only one shared with Facebook etc..
 
There’s paid blogging software? (Note, not the same as paid blogging *platforms*)

Even WP has both a self-hosted and a hosted option.
Is Ghost still around? Last I heard it was paid but it might be cloud.
