You need to spend money to register a domain, depending on the domain extension you choose, you will have to spend $1- $1500 per domain. Some hosting companies also offer free domains for their customers, which is free for the first year. There is also also a company called Freenom, which offers free domains for a lifetime. These free domains come with extensions like dot tk, dot ml, dot cf, etc.

These free domains are not able to reach search engines like YouTube, and if you try, you will get it hard to open in others like DDG. Real domains are from IICANN (internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).

Freenom, a company that offers free domains is ICANN accredited registrar. However, sometime back Freenom was in the news for being suspended by ICANN for cybersquatting a competitor's brand. While you cannot search for external content on youtube, on Google you can rank a website using free domain if you have implemented proper SEO strategies.

Freenom doesn't work as expected as they do redirection for small period of time to your Cpanel or VPS then stops redirections suddenly, it is better to buy a domain name.

Yes, it is better to buy domain names but if you point your free domain to the nameservers from your host you will not encounter any issues as long as you renew in time. I am saying this form my experience.
By the way, Cpanel is your hosting control panel manager and VPS is a type of hosting package where you get your own private server.
Don't try to post on a topic you don't have any idea about.
