Have you ever had to fire a staff member? What did you have to fire them over?

I usually only have to fire staff members for being inactive. I've had to fire one for abusing his powers once too, though.

I've fired plenty of staff members due to their activity. During the promotion process from member to staff, I warn the future staff that activity is key. Any signs of inactivity will lead to a warning and after that, a demotion. Activity is very important, especially in the opening stage of a forum, and if staff members can't hold up their part by being active, they can easily be replaced with another candidate.

Personally, I have fired most of my staff, due to their inactivity. I have fired only a relative few compared to that, because of other issues like trying to do jobs they aren't assigned to do (backseat moderation mainly), or doing things that are against forum rules.

Whenever I've fired someone, it's usually due to inactivity. I've let them know up front that while they are not required to be online every single minute of every day, they do need to be relatively active and participate around the forum on a regular basis. Most people for some reason don't understand that.

Its always a hard thing to do. Ive luckily only ever had to demote somebody for inactivity, in which case they were very understanding and cooperative and later reapplied and reached Head Moderator.

I haven't it is a really hard thing to do. The only time when I have done it is when someone hasn't done their job properly to due to inactivity. It is a rare occurrence, I wouldn't instantly fire people though. I would give them a couple of warnings and then fire them. I haven't heard cases of other people getting fired due to things other than inactivity.

You should not fire anyone for petty mistakes. Fire only when the staff has committed grave crimes. If you are careful while hiring, you may not have to be in a situation when you will have to fire someone.

so far I have only taken them out of service when they were inactive. they didn't do anything wrong to me, everyone did their job in their role.

I don't own any website so i haven't had to fire any staff member. I guess i would fire a staff member if he or she abused his or her power. I doubt i would fire a staff member for being inactive.

Well, until now I have not fired any staff. I do not have a lot of staffs. In fact I have staff only on one forums and rest of the forums are entirely managed by me. My forums are small communities

Some staffs are very loyal to you and there are some ones that we will not be following the rules and regulations that you have given them and you have no choice fire them after some queries

A lot of care should be taken while hiring staff, otherwise, you might end up regretting your decision. You might even have to encounter issues on your site because of bad staff

Firing staff members in a forum can be a sensitive issue and should be handled carefully. It may become a problem for us if no proper guidelines is followed while firing them.
