Ever pay employees in advance?

Have you ever paid an employee of yours in advance? Maybe you submit a contract for a certain amount of work to be done, and you have to complete it in a given time maybe, or until the hours are worked up. I never have, but I'm sure some people do it. Would you ever do it?

I have not only asked for advanced payment as an employee but also paid in advance to my employee. Since I have been in a situation where I needed money and had to ask for advance payment, I understand some people can go into financial crisis and might nee money in advance. Therefore, when needed I pay in advance.
