Has there ever been time where you got a lot of traffic by mistake? Maybe it was promotion that was incorrect and brought people to your site, or maybe your link was posted for someone else and you got their traffic. Nothing like this has happened to me, but I am curious if any sites get traffic based on having similar names and such.

I can't say it was a mistake but it wasn't intentional. I have had people share my links on social platforms and received a huge spike in traffic for about 72 hours just on the one page. Was not prepared for it at all. The page went from getting maybe 50 views a day to well over 2,000.

While unintentional traffic can occur, it's worth noting that genuine organic traffic and targeted visitors who are interested in your content or products are usually more valuable for achieving your goals.

Very true but I won't mind having a few of those unintentional traffic once in a while.

I don't quite understand what you mean by getting traffic by mistake. However, I have had an influx of traffic from unexpected sources. I once received a lot of traffic from Wikipedia. Someone had created a backlink for my content on Wikipedia. I also received unexpected traffic from Medium when someone shared my web content links.

I wonder how it is going to be possible for someone to get a traffic to their website by mistake without them doing some things that is going to actually generate that traffic to their website. To the best of my knowledge, traffic never comes without effort.

Yes, it is possible to receive unintentional or wrong traffic to your site. There are several reasons behind this such as the following:

1) Users may accidentally mistype a URL in their browser, resulting in their landing on your site unintentionally.

2) Also, sometimes, website owners or bloggers may link to your website mistakenly or add incorrect links in their content. As a result, users who click on those links may end up on your site.

3) If you run online advertisements, there might be instances where the ads are placed on websites or platforms that are irrelevant to your target audience. As a result, users who click on those ads may end up on your website unintentionally.

This third part of running online advertisements is capable of doing that to someone's websites. There was a time my friend's business ad was pushed to porn website. He was shocked with the kind of traffic he got from there.
