If you want to start an online store, you have various options for domain extension, for instance you can use dot online, dot store, or dot shop. However, most of online stores prefer to use the traditional domain dot com. Would't it be nice if Amazon.com was Amazon.shop, Amazon.store, or Amazon.online instead of generic dot com? Interestingly, all of these domains point to Amazon.com.

I have owned shop and store domains but I dropped these domains because I did not use them. I still own two online domains

Amazon choose the dotcom, becomes as at then, the dotcom was the trending one, and it is very easy to type and search.

Amazon was established back in 1995 and I don't think there were other options back then, therefore, they chose dot com.

I think dot-com domains is the best and will continue to remain the best because it is the most popularly known. Popular online store like Amazon uses the .com domain.

Dot come is the most used and the most suitable one when it comes to commercial sector. However, at times, traffic may not be function of the domain name but the management of the website

I believe the domains like dot store, dot online can be a good domain extension for an online store, however, these domains are expensive compared to the popular choice dot com

If amazon had used it's domains as amazon.shop or amazon.store, it will not be as viral and professional as their current amazon.com domain. There is something about the types of domains we use that affects our businesses truely

Thank you for sharing this topic because I didn't know that there are domain name providers called dot online, dot shop and dot store. That's pretty direct when you use that domain extension. However, if I have a website I would probably go with dot com provided the domain in my mind is still available otherwise I might settle for the dot store.

Domains for online stores are quite required to be of highly quality domains with brandable names so that the keywords can bring in organic traffic to the website.

If you are trying to minimize your start up cost, I think you will have to avoid expensive domains like dot online. Dot com is the best option as everyone will recognize the domain

store, online and shop are good domain names for online store but these niche domains are expensive compared to the king com, therefore, dot com is a better option

That's true. However, problem with dot com is you cannot get hands on the name you want as everything you can think of will be already taken. That's how you end up using different extesion.

I would still use .com if it were an option just for the simple fact that it is the oldest and has the most value behind it.

However, I would consider using .shop after a .com domain site if I wanted to attache a store to it.

I'll rather have a dot com as my domain name extension no matter what. It'll be easier for people to type in and remember a .com extension than that of a .shop

I don't own an online store, but i also like the idea of making use of the traditional domain dot com for online stores domains. Amazon.com is just fine by me.

If you want to go for a dot com, you will find it will be very difficult to get a domain name of your choice as most of one word and two words domain are alreay taken

Dot com domain extension is general and can suit any domain name or purpose. You can use country name extensions like dot us, dot co.uk and so on if your store is limited to your country. Dot shop and dot store domain extensions are appealing too so it depends on what you want.
