When purchasing domains do you only go for the one year deal or do you buy for more than year?

When I buy my first domain, I will consider buying for at least 5 years provided I have funds. I heat that if you buy domains for 5 years you can get discounts. However, I don't know if this is actually true.

That's a good strategy. You might save money in total when you register for more than one year, but you initial cost will be much higher of you register for more than one year

The company did not offer discounts for subscribing beyond one year which was just fine because I did not plan to pay more. Namecheap sells some cheap domains for 5 years minimum subscription and I might try it once I gain enough knowledge to run a forum or start a blog for monetization.
