Does your members create more threads or replies?

In my forums, there is a balance between the new threads and replies. When there are threads with no replies, I remind my members to check out the empty threads and respond accordingly.

speaking for myself as a member of this forum, i create more replies than topics as i find it very easy to do, but this year going forward i hope to create more topics than reply.

With my forums, it's a mix really. Some users love starting topics to get different subjects to talk about. Some users mostly just reply to topics, and that's okay. I don't think there's anything wrong with replying to topics only. Each user is different.

Plus, the conversation is important, and that's why topics receive so many replies. The better the topic, the longer it goes.

Creating more of new topics is better than relying on only one topic because it is not every time you will be seeing an update to write in old topics. Old topics are meant to be replying when you have new update and new topics bring new idea and contribution to the forum.

Definitely, creating more topics is better, as it helps the forum to be very interesting and not just commenting on old topics, this is why I believe the reward for people creating topic should be greater

Well it all depends on the number of points people can get from any of them, if they all have the same points. Most members will prefer to go for only replies.

replies are easier to make than thread that is why i suggest that the reward system for thread should be bigger than that of replies, this would prompt more peopleto make replies.

Yeah that is how it suppose to be but in a case where both the replies and the thread are having the same points, most people will just prefer to go for the replies instead.

Sometimes, it gets boring to keep on posting replies on limited topics. It all depends though on the compensation for creating topics. On sites like Trendri and lumoxchange, you would see more threads than replies. That's because the rewards for threads are far than that of replies.

if people know that they can make more money from thread over replies then most people would go on and create thread but if you see that the difference is small, making replies is quite easier.

That's the truth though. I don't feel like making threads on forums where I would be paid 1 cents for replies and 2 cents for threads. The time taken to make one thread can make 2 posts.

I think there should be a balance between threads and replies. Sometimes when you allow members to make a lot of threads, there will be a lot of duplicate threads on your forum.

As a new forum owner I had an abundance of topics on my forum but over the due course of time reply to topic ratio were more.

In a forum, the staff should be creating more thread than replies. When the old content is too much in a forum, it will be boring. There's need to be creating new thread on the forum, so people can be encouraged to comment.

It depends. Some members like to make threads, some like to reply, others do a mix of both. I have some members that will never made threads. They just like to read through them and reply to them.

I think this is a way to make people active on your website instead of them to get tired over talking about one topic for a while.
A lot of forum owners should try this method and I'm very sure that it will work.

When members are allowed or encouraged to create more topics, it is very likely that there will be duplicate threads. However, you can stop this from happening by using a balanced approach
