Does your house need a basement?

When it comes to buying or selling a house, do you feel a basement is needed? I think if I were to buy a new house, or any house, it would need to have a basement. I like the idea of having a basement be my man cave, where I can have a nice big TV, my game collection, and any other collections I have stored out on the wall. Anyway, is it a requirement for you to have a basement? Even when selling a property?
